DISTILLING HERBS AND FLOWERS

Monique Herzig

This workshop is for anyone who is curious about the art of distilling. Distilling plants for medicine and perfume is ancient, and since the 1980s the process has gained popularity with herbalists and skincare formulators. Monique walks the group through step by step by step how to distill using a copper still and plants from the garden. Everyone can take home some for future use along with recipes and ideas.

Class Location: Makit Takit CRAFT CAVE 4750 Normal Blvd

STITCHED HISTORIES

AJ Young

In this workshop we’ll combine archival history practices with needlework to explore ideas of memory, history, documentation, and identity. Participants will choose an historical document that speaks to them (from their personal history or broader cultural histories). We’ll print the documents onto fabric and embellish them with stitching while we discuss how craft can help us engage with historical texts and information in different ways. Participants will leave the session with an embroidered document that can be incorporated into quilts or other sewing projects, used as a patch on a jacket or bag, or as fodder for many other projects, as well as a new perspective on historical documentation.
